Resorts – it is a state national treasure. Recently there are 4 resorts in Lithuania: 2 in the seaside and 2 in the South Lithuania. Seashore gives two possibilities: or pleasantly spend summer holidays in noisy Palanga, where tourists can find a wide choice of recreation, rejoicing, concerts and carnivals, or quietly spend the time in out – of – the – town place without uproar and chaos, edged with a nature of miraculous beauty – Neringa. Other two resorts located in the South of Lithuania – Druskininkai and Birštonas – are remedial, where there are usable mineral water and therapeutic mud for medical treatment and relaxing leisure. Organism hardening, health intensification, prevention of diseases, rehabilitation – all this is fulfilled applying the natural factors (climate therapy, balneo-therapy, pelo therapy, hydro therapy).
Druskininkai – is a resort town in the South of Lithuania, 130 km to the South - West from Vilnius. It is all year round active balneo-therapeutic, mud and climatic, the oldest (since 1794 year) and the biggest Lithuanian resort. Recently Druskininkai occupies 2241 ha of territory, here live approximately 24 755 habitants (1st of January, 2006). Annually visit approx. 201 635 tourists (2007 year). Resort is edged all around pine forests in 30 km ray, there is no any industrial object around the town in 40 km ray, and for this reason here is unique micro climate: big air ionization, and phytoncides excreting from conifers annihilate microbes and bacterium, which arouse various diseases. According to the air ionization index Druskininkai is one step ahead of such favorite resorts as Kislodovsk, Pyatigorsk and even net Davos in Swiss. Nemunas and Ratnyčėlė rivers flow through Druskininkai, and there are 12 clear lakes around, in which breed plenty of various fishes and cancers.
The biggest resort treasure is – the recourses of mineral waters, of which there are even 11. Their water improves functions of stomach, liver, discharge of bile and normalizes the intestine activity, treats the respiratory, nervous, cardio- and vascular systems, gynecological and skin diseases. The main resort curative factors are mineral waters, one of the best therapeutic mud and wonderful micro climate in Europe. Druskininkai is a member of World hydrotherapy and climate therapy association, unifying more than 60 resorts in all the world.
Terrain name is bound with salt. Saltman is – a person, engaged in salt production, sale, delivery. Long long ago here spew springs of mineral salt. Mineral waters have been discovered in XVII century already. And on 20th of June 1794 after investigation of salty sources of Druskininkai, the Grand Duke of Lithuania and the King of Poland Stanisław August Poniatowski issued the decree and declared Druskininkai to be the health resort.
Recently there are 6 sanatoriums and one balneologic health-resort in Druskininkai, which in one time are able to attend approximately 6000 persons. There are applied the newest diagnostics and treatment technologies in sanatoriums, the wide spectrum of procedures – underwater massage, whirlpool, mineral, pearl, oxygen, vertical and therapeutic herbal and mud baths. There are swimming pools, saunas, gyms, beauty salons in all the sanatoriums. Welness center is in the town, and in the end of 2006 the door opened Aqua amusement park, the biggest and the most modern in all the Baltic region. There is a very wide choice of funfair for adults and children, there are various relaxation procedures also.
Druskininkai make famous not only unique nature springs, but also world made a glory artists. Here created painter and composer M. K. Čiurlionis, also here was born famous sculptor modernist Jacques Lipchitz. There is protected their memory in the town. Annually there are Čiurlionis music festivals.
Druskininkai – is the year dot valued, treasured and loved resort of Lithuania people, annually magnetizing more and more tourists from foreign countries, and it becomes one of the main places in Europe, where crowds of flowing tourists find out soul and mind harmony.
